    Hi everyone,

I am really new in OpenSees and wanted to ask about how to assigning equalDOF for zerolength element making connection between beams and solid element (representing deck) in OpenSees Navigator.

My model is in 3D and I am studying the diaphragm effect of a heavy wood floor using screws and glulam deck and beams.

I am getting thi message :
“WARNING ZeroLength::setDomain(): nodes … and …have differing dof at ends for ZeroLength …”

According to FMK in the following link, I have to duplicate nodes and assigning equalDOF. How to do it in Navigator please ?

I tried different kind of manipulations (like assigning 2 or 3 DOFS for all elements as solid element are working in 2D) but without any success.
I will be really grateful for your help !

    Hi,

Even I succeeded to assign equalDOF to 120 zerolength manually, OSN still crash after running it. I get the following message :
WARNING ZeroLength::setDomain(): nodes… and … have differing dof at ends for ZeroLength…

    Any help please !

    Best regards

You need to have duplicate nodes wherever you connect a brick element to a zeroLength element (so you will actually have 3 nodes in the same location, 1 for the brick element and 2 for the zeroLength element). The node for the brick element needs to have 3 DOF and the two nodes for the zeroLength element need to have 6 DOF. Then you need to use the equalDOF command to connect the translational DOF of the brick element node to the translational DOF of one of the zeroLength element nodes.
